Curriculum

Curriculum and instructional materials are integral parts of a public school system. The State Board of Education periodically updates the state’s curriculum standards called the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Textbooks and other instructional materials are then written for children based on those standards. More than 48 million textbooks are distributed by the Texas Education Agency to Texas public school students each year.

Commissioner of Education Michael Williams announced today that the Texas Education Agency has designated 16 new Texas Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (T-STEM) Academies for the 2014-2015 school year.

TEA offers graduation toolkit to students, parents, school counselors

  Commissioner of Education Michael Williams announced today that the Texas Education Agency, in collaboration with the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and Texas Workforce Commission, has made available a graduation toolkit for students, parents and school counselors.

Financial concerns cause SBOE to delay instructional materials adoption

  Concerned that school districts might struggle to pay for new instructional materials that are scheduled for implementation in fall of 2015, the State Board of Education voted to push its scheduled adoption of Proclamation 2016 instructional materials out by one year.
